Our purpose is to encourage good, fair sportsmanship in competitive racing events and in all organized programs for club members and invited area boaters.
Club activities are planned to promote participation of both power and sail boaters alike.

John Walsh was an avid racer along the Neuse River. As a member of FHYC, John conceived the idea of a 22 mile race down to Oriental in 1984. There were 6 boats in the race, and John was the Race Chair, the PRO, and the Committee Boat owner. He would start the race with his bugle and then power down to Oriental to the finish line. Our Club and its members have endured some substantial trials and tribulations over the past 18 months. Sometimes we struggled to maintain the status quo and other times learned how to think outside the box. We have shown our resilience and continued to take on more challenges for people less fortunate than ourselves. Yes, we have lost some members but we are also bringing in new members, giving the club a strength and vitality heading into the future. The leadership over this past year has been phenomenal.
