Racing with FHYC

Dinghy Series consists of a Sunfish fleet and a fleet of “all other small craft.” Spring and fall series are held on Sundays in Northwest Creek. Committee volunteers and spectators gather on the Jarvis’ dock, behind 5620 Gondolier Drive, to watch the action. Contact Jerry Rezab.

Ensign Fleet provides one-design racing with a spring and fall series. Contact Mark Hittner.

Tuesday Fun Racing is enjoyed by everyone from beginners to experts. Some people think that using “fun” and “racing” together is an oxymoron; but come join us and find out that we really do have fun. We use a pursuit start, beginning at 1700, so there is not the start line frenzy that is found in many races. Let us know your boat make and size, and we will tell you your start time. The typical race begins at 1N and uses fixed marks in the Neuse River. Each race takes around an hour to an hour and a half. There is a splash following the race on the first Tuesday of each month. The series runs from April through October. Contact John Jackson.

Wilkerson Cup Regatta. The 2018 Wilkerson Cup, April 15, will use a different format. Racers may need to pick up a designated object at different marks, and may need to sail a star pattern, etc. It should be both fun and entertaining for those who want to come out to participate, or bring their power boat and watch. Details are being worked out. More information will be in the Semaphore or contact Barb and Russ Robinson.

The Oar Race Regatta is a distance race of approximately 20 - 22 miles. The Oar Race commemorates the evacuation of Dunkirk, and the perpetual award is an oar used during that historic event. The overall winner will have his or her name added to the perpetual trophy and receive a miniature replica. Contact Georgie Jackson.

All FHYC racing events, with the exception of the Wilkerson Cup, are open races, so please invite sailors you know to participate. Many FHYC racers also participate in local events sponsored by Blackbeard Sailing Club, NYRA, and other Inter-Club Racing Committee organizations. See the FHYC website for schedules and details.

If you have not yet met a FHYC member, consider stopping in at one of our general meetings at the Community Center.
