Racing with FHYC

The Dinghy Series consists of a Sunfish fleet and a fleet of “all other small craft.” Spring and fall series are held on Sundays in Northwest Creek. Committee volunteers and spectators gather on the Jarvis’ dock, behind 5620 Gondolier Drive, to watch the action. Contact Jerry Rezab.

The Ensign Fleet provides one-design racing with a spring and fall series. Contact Doug Longhini.

Tuesday Fun Racing is enjoyed by everyone from beginners to experts. Some people think that using “fun” and “racing” together is an oxymoron, but come join us and find out that we really do have fun. We use a pursuit start, beginning at 1700, so there is not the start line frenzy that is found in many races. Let us know your boat make and size, and we will tell you your start time. The typical race goes from N1 to 17 and back and takes around an hour. There is a splash following the race on the first Tuesday of each month. The series runs from April through October. Contact John Jackson.

The Wilkerson Cup Regatta is a one-day PHRF event with a social following the race. The annual event is held in memory of Bill Wilkerson, who was a dedicated Fairfield Harbour sailor and racer. If you race only once a year, this is the one for you. Contact Paul Eckenroth.

The 34th Oar Race Regatta is a distance race from New Bern to Oriental. Participants then have the opportunity to race back the following day in the Beer Stein Cup sponsored by the Neuse Yacht Racing Association (NYRA). The Oar Race commemorates the evacuation of Dunkirk, and the perpetual award is an oar used during that historic event. The overall winner will have his or her name added to the perpetual trophy and receive a miniature replica. Contact Mark Hittner.

All FHYC racing events, with the exception of the Wilkerson Cup, are open races, so please invite sailors you know to participate. Many FHYC racers also participate in local events sponsored by Blackbeard Sailing Club, NYRA, and other Inter-Club Racing Committee members. See the FHYC website for schedules and details.

Join the Fairfield Harbour Yacht Club

Membership in the Fairfield Harbour Yacht Club is open to individuals or couples who are property owners or condominium owners in the Fairfield Harbour development located in New Bern, North Carolina, pay full Property Owners Association (POA) dues, and who own a registered or documented sail or power boat.

Prospective members must be sponsored by two current members. Your sponsors will guide you through the application procedure, introduce you to other members of the Club at regular meetings, invite you to participate in Club events, accompany you to an orientation session, and continue to serve as your mentors over your first year of membership. If you have not yet met a FHYC member, consider stopping in at one of our general meetings at the Community Center. The date of the next general meeting is listed under "Upcoming Events" on this page.

Copies of the application form and other membership forms may be found under the "Administration" tab at the top of this page.
